Brian Williams: Closet Blogger

I'll have to admit this: when Brian Williams was a news anchor at the local CBS affiliate here in New York (way back in the early '90s), I thought he was as dull as dry toast. Just another talking head in a nice suit, was what my impression was. But over the years, he's proven me wrong; not only has his field reporting and anchoring been impressive, his appearances on Late Night with Conan O'Brien and The Daily Show, among other places, shows that he has a pretty quick and goofy sense of humor. Kinda like what Al Gore has shown in the years since he lost the 2000 election.

Now, people are starting to find out that he's a pretty fair blogger, too. Check out this entry from The Daily Nightly, a blog on the website for the NBC Nightly News. In it, he does a good job of describing the security situation in a New Orleans that no longer needs such high security. After that, examine the rest of the blog, which contains insights from Williams, field reporters, and Nightly News staff, describing just how a network news broadcast gets put together. Fascinating stuff.
